Can you help on this? I cannot give an accurate answer on this .Thanks in Advance.
I have a desktop which is my main computer. I also have a Compaq Presario which I purchased at the beginning of the year. I really bought the laptop so that I could take it with me when I go to the States, however, I’m not sure now that I can. My ISP is Freedom2surf ADSL Broadband, which I like very much – however this I think may be my problem. I have an internal modem with the desktop and used the phone connector for the laptop when my desktop was being diagnosed earlier as I had to have computer access. With the laptop I, of course, had to use an external modem – do you know if I will need to take this to the States with – or anything you can tell me about this or how I can get connected to the net whilst I’m in the States would be a help – I’m obviously wanting to access my emails which it sounds to me as if I won’t be able to. I’m sorry if this doesn’t make clear what I’m trying to achieve, normal computer usage is what I want whilst I’m in the States – though personally I cannot see how?.

What have you done to your keyboard? I've got Euros all over the place plus other interesting things.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really? Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

That's the error message I was getting (see my post "Error on posting on forums"). It's all sorted out now. Madeline.
To err is human; to really foul things up you need a computer.

Am sure I read an answer to your query somewhere, memory unfortunately a bit rusty. What I can recall is, to take out a temporary account from an ISP in the States. I'll try a search, it's there somewhere.

Not the answer I was referring to but this advice seemed worth passing on from another forum site.
"I prefer to use Internet cafes...they are all over the place, cheapo and there is no need to worry about getting your laptop robbed/throat cut by people who need to work for 15 years to own one;-)). If you are travelling on business then that is a different matter. If you have a wireless connection then Starbucks offer wireless connection.
You can subscribe to AOL as it has out-of-town connections but you will be reliant on finding a spare phone point that you can use. it is unlikely that you could use your home ISP."

Came across a Magazine Review on Netaway a pay-as-you-go alternative to using an internet cafe or paying a hotel's exorbitant rates for a connection when abroad. Netaway has a built in list of 18,000 localised internet access numbers, charges a flat fee of 8p per minute regardless of location.
There's a bit of a catch to it, you need access to a phoneline, i.e a hotel room but still cheaper than the hotel's ISP. Then there's a £25 setup fee, but deducted from credit that you purchase upfront.
Worth considering according to the magazine.
