Alternative Browsers
      #8128 - Thu Aug 28 2003 11:26 PM

Hi,

I was curious to know the different kind of browser's people use, because I am sure not everybody uses IE. What alt. web browser's do you use? are they any good, what sort of stuff can they do?. Does anybody recommend any top quality Al.t web browsers?

Look forward to hearing from you on this topic.

i'm using slim browser from flashpeak, as recommended by the fat controler, it has a lot of extras on it , like short cuts to different parts of your computer , windows folder,my computer, my documents, etc.it also has a handy zoom feature to make the page bigger, it has a ton of extra's too numerous to mention, you could always d/load it and give it a go, i still have ie, which my wife uses.and no problems.
if i had known i would live this long, i would have taken better care of myself.

As bricat mentioned, I use Slimbrowser as my default, but I also have IE6, NS7.1, Opera, Mozilla, Avant, Family & Stealth browsers (although much of a muchness) to test web sites on. (All I need now is a Mac, another PC running Linux, and, and, and..... is there no end to combinations for testing? )

Although I'm looking forward to the release of Macromedia Studio MX 2004 which has enhanced browser testing/compatibility features.

But Slimbrowser is the star of the show for my surfing needs.

I use Mozilla Firebird as default (not only is it open source it's excellent, standards compliant & has excellent security) and also Opera as a standby. I use Mozilla Thunderbird for e-mail. I won't touch IE or any of it's shells (Slim, Avant, IE2 etc).

Cool! I think the ultimate of ultimates in a web browser for me would have to be a quality pop-up blocker; I hate them so much! I seriously wish death upon the people who invented pop-ups, lol. I currently use 'Smart Pop-up Killer' for IE, and it's fantastic, it simply does it's job and blocks pop-ups, and nothing else, unlike most pop-up blockers.

Thanks for your opinions, keep 'em coming!

and i agreee pop up creators shud be shot :( lol

opera claims to be faster but tbh i dont see any speed difference if not slower in some cases

I am replying to this using Avant Browser, and my first impression on it is pretty cool, I like the way it looks like IE, but more advanced. I also love the fact it blocks pop-ups!. Although I wish I could add the IeSpell button to the tool bar (does anybody know if this is possible? or if their is a shortcut key on the keyboard which activates it?)

Think I'll stick with this browser, it's neat!

Unfortunately IESpell can't be installed into Avant toolbar. However, if you've downloaded it into IE and your using Avant, right click on your mouse anywhere in an open page and you will see ieSpell Options. The Avant User Forum is pretty good for tips (not a good as this one and with mostly Americans on it, unsurprising with its origin).

Yeah, I figured that out after I posted that, lol, shame about the tool bar option not being available, oh well, I'll just use the alternative method. Keep 'em coming if anybody has anymore!
