Freeserve/yahoo mailing problem
      #79297 - Thu Jun 17 2004 12:41 PM

I'm using Windows XP with OE v6 and Freeserve broadband, the problem is I can receive but can no longer send mail using my yahoo mail account address. I've rechecked all the 'accounts' settings, and was able to send mail up until three months ago. Can anyone help? - apologies if this is an old chestnut but this is my first visit to the site.

(Also, can I change my login password to this site?)

Richard

If you have two or more accounts you will have to select the one you wish to use to send your mail. You have Freeserve Broadband, so if you also have a Freeserve mail account use their settings to send you mail. It should be something like this: -

SMTP. Wanadoo.com

Now set your incoming mail to the individual accounts that you have using the Pop3.Wanadoo.com or Pop3.yahoo.com if that is the correct email address.

As to changing your details, you will have to log on to the Web Site and change your details there.

Thanks for the reply Joe, but perhaps I should explain more. On my OE under 'accounts/ mail ' I have both 'pop.freeserve.com' and 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk' set-up. I've had freeserve broadband since November and could always select either my freeserve or yahoo email address to send mail. But since March, I still receive mail sent to me at my email address under either system but when I try and send, or reply to, mail using my Yahoo address (selected from the 'from' box at the top of the message screen) I receive an error message and it goes straight into the outbox. If I then open the message from the outbox and select the freeserve address, the mail gets sent.

Please don't give up! I really need to get this sorted out

(ps thanks re password)

Sorry, I forgot to include this error message I get when I try and send using yahoo:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk (1)', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

Thats a disconnection error which may have something to do with the modem or network or perhaps your settings. Try this.

Open outlook Express, click on Tools | Accounts | Highlight one of the accounts there and click properties at the side. Click on the servers tab and make sure you are using the Freeserve SMTP settings, e.g. smtp.wanadoo.com. Now go back and highlight the other account and follow the same procedure and make sure you use the same smtp settings for that account. This means that all your mail will be sent by the same ISP, in this case Freeserve. leave the Pop3 settings as they are.

It may be that the settings became corrupted somehow.

OK Joe - That worked, thank you very much indeed!

I did have 'smtp.mail.yahoo' etc in that box, and have tried to get a practical reply to this question from other help sites but nobody has explained it sufficiently clearly, an assumption is often made of people's basis IT knowledge!!

You can expect to see me again under various topic listings!

Joe - I sent the same query to Freeserve/Wanadoo 'on-line' help. Their reply has just arrived, here it is, helpful or what? :

Dear Sir / Madam,

Thank you for your email.

We do not support other ISP email. You would need to contact Yahoo for
technical support.

If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.

Kind Regards

Wanadoo Technical Support

These so called help resources are useless, this is a typical textbook response. Still at least they replied which is more than Blueyonder did to my recent enquiries.
