I run a small internet based business and need to send BCC emails at least once a month. However recently I have discovered that people have not been receiving these. I am not doing anything any differently than before, so I am wondering whether ISPs are blocking them as spam, because I am using BCC. Does anyone know a way around this please? Thanks

Helen welcome to blocklisting, filters and other nasty things.
Are you using opt-in, or opt-out as i block out out companies on sight for opt-out and any firm that tries to sign me up to extra lists is filtered (zatz). so no email from them just a nice deny message
I dont block on bcc.
Remember there server there rules. Since somebody as deemed your mass mailing 'spam' can i send you all mine ?

I've had to block Fresh Devices ever since registering Fresh Download (which I've still never used).
Sometimes I was getting "update reminders" several times a day. It's possible that they don't class this sort of thing as spam, but I do when my inbox is overflowing.
Perhaps the same thing is happening to you, in which case nobody will thank you for circumventing their spam filters. It just makes them more determined to keep you out.
Probably you're not spamming, but it could be that people think you are and would rather not receive e-mails from you.
Apart from that, I don't know what else could be causing the problem. Sorry.

That's really odd, Barney. I've got FreshDownload and FreshUI and they only ever send me an e-mail when one of the programmes has been updated and I can click on a link to install the new version over the old one. They don't pester me, though.

I posted to two forums, not being sure which one the request belonged in.
It seems that some ISPs regard my mailing as spam, and that's that.
I thought I had replied to people individually that had helped me, I apologise if the message did not get through.

Just a thought, have your e-mails been returned? If not perhaps you could ask one or two of your BCC addressees to check their ISP's Spam folders to see if they have been diverted there.
I occasionally get genuine messages diverted by BTYahoo to the Bulk Folder as Spam. Anything you sent I would have thought returned as undeliverable.

these people you are sending the emails to, are they home users or you sending them to a work address?
there are a few companies that treat all bcc emails as spam, well there spam filter does.

Thank you for replying.
They are mostly to home addresses, unless people don't have email at home. I tried another method of getting in touch and judging from the replies I have had it seems to be only certain ISPs that are treating this as spam.

Thanks George, I tried that, and you were right, it was being treated as spam, so now I have contacted people and asked them to adjust their filters.

I have often wondered why no one [much cleverer than me] has never devised a method of being able to use a form of mail merge to create personalised emails to more than one recipient without the need to go down the BCC route, whereby the mail program looks at peoples titles and email address held on a legitimate database and generates and sends out x number of separate emails out.
Obviously the recipients would have needed to opt in to receive the mail as opposed to being forced to opt out

You are entering the the arena of spamwear - nobody pays for it (not even the spammers) so its bad, and ignores most of the mail protocol.
bcc means you write the message once and nobody knows whom else you sent it to. Its easy.
Email + Marketing = dont mix. Im now on a CD of email names. some retard executive person will think because im on a cd rom I want there special messages. I don't opt out of stuff I never wanted.
Guess what I spent friday afternoon doing ?

I accept what you are saying and I hoped that my post clarified that only those who consciously subscribe should receive the email.
What I mean is a well intended method of providing interested parties with a means of personalised communication - not spam.
I well understand the concept of BCC and think that it should be abolished. Consider the following problem with BCC at work -
A so called colleague emails you accusing you of making a serious error and BCC's your boss in, you click reply all with a stiff rebuttal, guess who is ignored from the reply - yes the BCC. Stupid invention - that's why I can honestly say I have never used it and that's why I ignore BCC mail - as do many others, hence the origin of this thread

Apologies if I bored you. smtp works well - its just not a mass /bulk/ marketing tool. It came from the 'nice' age of the net when everybody trusted everybody.

You're right that some spam filters treat BCCs as spam. I personally hate BCC e-mails. In my opinion, it's just a lazy, impersonal way of contacting lots of people.
I send out e-mails to lots of our customers at work, but use mail merge. With only a little extra work, each customer gets an e-mail that starts "Dear Rob" or "Dear Mr Dickson" and my e-mails are never treated as spam.
