Amstrad e-mailer/AOL Broadband
      #69347 - Wed May 19 2004 12:44 AM

I have recently connected to AOL Broadband, installing modem and software no problem....only one small problem with firewall which I did not know enough about then, but with AOL Tech Help everything working well. However, I have four phones in my home (max) & one of them is an Amstrad e-mailer. All phones have a DSL Filter fitted and all work OK except that when Amstrad is connected with DSL Filter the ADSL Modem disconnects...remove filter from Amstrad and modem connects (but phone is then noisy). PC/Modem and Amstrad e-mailer (with filter fitted) cannot be used together which is a bit of a loss because I find the Amstrad phone very useful.(never for e-mails). I suppose there is a conflict between ADSL Modem & Amstrad, has anyone else had the same problem and found a solution?? All worked OK with 56K dial-up connection.

It sounds to me as if you may be exceeding the REN (Ringing Equivalence Number). Any piece of equipment connected to a normal household t/p line will have it's REN marked on it somewhere. The total REN must not exceed 4. That doesn't necessarily mean 4 phones because the REN of one of them might be greater than 1.

Hi there

I have my computer and my Amstrad em@iler on the same line and I've had no probs at all. I'm signed up with Wanadoo.

Both my computer and em@iler are connected to an ADSL filter which is connected via a 2 meter extension cord to the BT socket.

Perhaps you could try a shorter extension cord or another ADSL filter (Just in case there's a prob with the one your using)...

Thanks, all phones are ringing OK but you gave me an idea...have now connected e-mailer via a long extension cable to all other socket outlets, no noise and DSL modem does not disconnect. Will have to investigate the offending socket or wiring. Thanks
