I'm with BT Broadband and for some strange reason my connection will pause and then suddenly do what I wanted. This happens all the time and hasn't stopped for about a month!!
The connection doesn't stop and downloading files is fine. I don't really think it could be spyware or something as i have my PC very well protected. Thanks for any advice or help!!

Can you provide more information on when you get pauses - is it when you visit new sites (ie could be a delay in DNS lookups), is it while you are in the middle of doing something? How long do these pauses last? How often do they come up (ie every 1 min)? Does it come up at a regular interval? Are the pauses the same length? Have you got an AV product running in the background analysing every object you download from the web? etc etc

This only started about a month ago and i have always had the same AV software AVG. I had it when it started and before the problem started.
I would say the pausing happens every 2-4 minutes and doesn't stop. Every pause can last from half a minute to about 1 minute I think.
I only go on these forums, the xbox forums, my homepage itv news lol and swapitshop.com I think that's the main things i go on and i might go on the BBC the odd time but that's about it.
I only ever have the internet on, on it's own. The odd time i might have Microsoft word but that's not often at all!!
I don't think the pauses are the same length but they could be and it's hard to tell sorry.

hhhmmm... a very hard one to diagnose - thats for sure. Actually not sure I can help you within the limitations of this forum. Often issues like this are caused by the installation of programs over the life of your PC and because many "un-install" features don't properly remove all traces of the program - you end up with a PC that is completely bogged down. I am a power user and re-install my laptop almost every 6 months!
Anyway, all I can see from the information you have provided is that; (a) you have quite an outdated lap/desktop (and although this is not an explanation in itself... the fact that you have written "a lot of security software", indicates that you may be seriously trying to squeeze too much out of your machine.
The way forward from here would be to either completely re-install (probably not the option you wanted to hear), increase your RAM (although this may not get rid of the issue) or start cleaning up your system (ie, get rid of unecessary "security" programs). Sorry I can't be of more help! Good Luck

That's no problem thanks anyway and BT couldn't help. They just told me to do a scan with spybot and two virus reomoving tools then give up.
I use freeramxppro and try and keep about 94Mb of ram free all the time and i have no problems using all the security software even though speed on the internet can be very slow at times it's fine and i have got used to it now lol
I think the PC is about 5 years old so is very outdated but the way i see it, it works!!
