problem with USB connection to ntl Cable Modem
      #68195 - Sat May 15 2004 03:21 PM

I ran the installer CD and it got half way before encountering a problem that meant I had to call technical support.
To cut a long story short, my PC will not accept the drivers for the Cable Modem 351000. It's in the USB socket (I have no ethernet compatibility) and is clashing with something.

At present my USB drivers are:

-OPTi 82C861 PCI to USB Open Host Controller
-USB Control Hub
-USB Control Hub
-VIA VT83C572/VT82C586 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller

I'm running Windows 98 Plus

The Cable Modem does appear in the device manager, but with an exclamation mark over it.

you could save yourself a lot of strife by getting a network card, you can get them for as little as £5 and it will let you connect via the ethernet cable. i went through this whole thing on my nephews computer a few weeks ago the usb would just not let him install the network adapter. after fitting a network card it connected straight away.

I would agree entirely with Bricat - get an ethernet card and forget the USB connection. If you want to try once more with the USB, go into Device Manager and delete the device with the exclamation mark. Switch off your PC, plug in the USB cable and switch on again. The New Hardware wizard should start and install your modem.
