LINKS
      #6782 - Thu Aug 21 2003 09:41 PM

Just a small problem that I seem to be having...Since I've discovered this site and registered, I like to follow the different problems etc just in case I ever encounter the same. What I've noticed over the last couple of days is that with all the links that you guys put in when I click on them to see where they go I get no where...all I get is the hour glass and it just hangs there and I get so fed up of waiting that I cancel it. At first I thought that it was just a one off but it doesn't seem that it is. I run windows 98...Cheers

Try right clicking on the link and opening in a new window. IPC have in fact set all their forums (and they have loads) to automatically do this. Maybe your Browser is blocking this action.

Not sure about this being likely but, do you have a Pop up Stopper installed? That might be the reason.

Tried right clicking and I still get the same problem It's as if I can't open another window. I have zone a;arm running but no pop up blockers.

It's not just certain links it's them all. As I said earlier I've tried again to no avail. However when I cancelled the last screen the web address came up so I copied and pated into my browser and the site came up....It just seems to me that somehow I have stopped the links.

Puta...I have followed the instructions down to where it asks you to check the registry and It is still the same. I've no idea as to how I check to see if the following files are there or not.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
Name: (Default)
Value: IDispatch
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32
Name: (Default)
Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046

if you have any ideas I would be grateful.....Thanks ........Pete

Go to Start | Run
Type in regedit
Go to Edit, Click Find

Copy and paste the following:

{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}

Click Find Next
Give it a bit of time to search
The right Pane should show Default

Press the F3 key
Give a bit of time to search

again, the right Pane should show Default

Finally press the F3 key again
Give a bit of time to search

again, the right Pane should show Default

If all three times you find Defaultefault , try the regsvr32 repair

Quit all programs that are running.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
Shdocvw.dll
Msjava.dll
Actxprxy.dll
Oleaut32.dll
Mshtml.dll
Browseui.dll

Hi again....I've tried the regedit and on the first two it came up with default in the right pane and in the left a whole load of numbers blued out. On the last try all it said was finished checking registry. I've also done the other fix but it's still the same...Pete

Sorry to be a pain but I still have the same problem after doing everything that's been suggested. As I can get to the links once I've stopped it and pressed go in the address bar could it be how I've set my options in web user?

Silly question, you are clicking on 'live' links, that is links that show up in the forum as coloured red. If you see a link like this http://www.alexander-advertising.co.uk and click on it, it will not work. It must be shewn thus:-
http://www.alexander-advertising.co.uk for it to work.

The only other suggestion I can make is for you to find the 'repair' I.E. tab and run that. I believe this option is available on W98 but not on XP.

Went onto IE repair but things are still the same. I've tried clicking on a link in one of my e mails but it's still the same...all I get is the egg timer and nothing else...I then press the stop button...the site address then comes up in the tool bar and I press go and it then connects straight away...WIERD!!!!

As you say, weird. There must be a setting wrong somewhere. I will have to explore this and see if I duplicate your error.

I'm blowed if I can duplicate your problem. I have searched everywhere and changed settings to no avail. I suppose you have been to
Tools/internet options/advanced/restore defaults? If not try that.
