Google 2.0
      #6693 - Thu Aug 21 2003 12:27 PM

I use Google as my main search engine but was confused when i recently tried to download Googles 2.0 beta version, as i was informed that its not compatible with AOL version 8.0 (which i run), even though on my AOL homepage a logo states that its powered by Google.I'm quite new to PC's so i'm a bit confused to why i can't receive the new download.

Unfortunately AOL is not compatible with many new programs and only becomes so after a while. This is because AOL uses a different way of doing things to the rest of the world (think of Betamax & VHS).

Dear Bubble,
Google 2.0 Beta Is Not Compatible With AOL 8. But You Can Use Google 1.8v Which I Think Will Work.

AOL does do things in a very different way than most other ISP's. You could try using Internet Explorer Instead (AOL Software is based on the power of Internet Explorer). I'll try and find you the download site for Google Toolbar 1.8, but no promises

Unfortunately there is no version 1.8 See here for version history

To be honest I would be tempted to use internet explorer for Browsing and using the google Toolbar

Version 1.1.70 was not at all popular as it had a tendency to update itself or search for updates all the time, not popular with the serious surfers as it stole bandwidth

Alternatively you could put a shortcut into your bookmarks to Google

Opera also has a google search box at the top of the page. I'm using IE at the moment because i just got a new PC, but i'll get opera back soon.
