Hi! I am really getting bogged down now with all the different isp's out there. I have kind of narrowed it down to about 5. I would ideally like unlimited 512k broadband not capped packages and would rather not pay a lump sum for connection, or at the most as much as £20. I will be buying my own modem/router. I have my eyes on the speedtouch 510. (more later). OK the isp's. I was seriously considering tiscali due to the sucess of the company and free connection, but i have heard reports that the connection speeds have problems and the network is very unrealiable. Then recently i have considered plusnet and fair broadband but their packages are too complex i would like to keep it simple. The other day i saw an advert for Gio broadband but i have read about the company bearly braking even and some legal issues. I would like a secure company that will be around in the forseeable future. I saw an advert for virgin and thought it seemed good, but people have said that there have been network problems. Ok, serious companies now. I am seriously considering freedom2surf and pipex. I don't mind the set-up cost issue of having to pay if not subscribing for more than 12 months because once i choose i will stay for the foreseeable future. Does anyone have any plusses or minuses on freedom2surf or pipex? Does these packages allow P2P file sharing? Any comments would be greatly appreiciated. Regards

I, too, am with Freedom2surf. I have been with them for about 18 months now. The service has been impeccable and have had no more than 4 hours of downtime in the past 12 months, 3 of which wasn't their fault
Please post your query to the boards as many hands make light work, and I'm not talking electricians! If your problem is solved, let us know so that others can learn.

Do you live in a cabled area? I've been with NTL for about 2 years and have been very happy with the service. They are doing an offer of free installation and free modem for a 600k connection at £24.99 a month (see here.) They do cap the service at 1gb a day.
ntl: home's broadband and dial-up services are intended for normal recreational or educational use by individuals and families and our pricing and network architecture have been designed accordingly. Customers who use the services more heavily than a normal home user will reduce the performance of the network for other customers.
"Normal use" of the service is defined as up to 1 gigabyte downstream of data transfer daily (which equates to approximately 200 music tracks, 650 short videos, 10,000 pictures or around 100 large software programmes downloaded per day).

I would cetainly 'not' recommend Wanadoo. If you put in the search box 'Wanadoo' you will see several posts as to why!

I too am more than happy with NTL, but as u say, u r not in a cabled area.
2 options are Skynet, which allows download via Satellite or u could start a broadband campaign, as discussed in issue 82.

I agree, PlusNet is the way forward.
By the way, did you know that I get a quid if you sign up after having clicked on the icon on Rob's Useful Links?

I have to say Pipex for me was very good, i was with them for 2 years at University and i had no complaints. I have returned from university to AOL and they are poor.
I can't even get to my pop3 account with AOL or share internet with 2 computers.
Thumbs up to PIPEX and down to AOL]
