Hi, All
I am on Bt Openworld Broadband 512k. I read Puta’s Tutorial on CableNut and so downloaded the programme. I opened the programme for ADSL Win XP but I found it applied to PPPoE. I checked my connection and found that it was ISDN PPPoA. On checking the Control Panel it shows the connection as a dial-up connection. I made a new connection as a Broadband connection no problem, showed as Broadband WAN Miniport PPPoE. I tried to connect to the Internet with this connection, but it kept giving me the following error - 769 the specified destination is not reachable. Does this mean? 1. I am not on ASDL Broadband for which I pay a princely sum each month 2. Is there something wrong with my connection? 3. Will CableNut work with the connection I have? 4 Should I contact Bt Openworld for help? Ha! Ha!
The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on.

IDSN PPPoA on an ADSL connection?
Which ADSL modem have you installed?
Please post your query to the boards as many hands make light work, and I'm not talking electricians! If your problem is solved, let us know so that others can learn.

Hi Puta,
I have an Alcatel Speed Touch supplied by Bt Openworld. When I open the Bt Openworld Properties, in Network Connections the splash screen shows. Connect using: - ISDN - Speed Touch USB ASDL PPP. If I click on configure the splash screen that shows has a heading ISDN Configuration and the Line type is 64k Digital. Does this make sense to you?
The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on.

What type of line did you have before Broadband? Do you have an ISDN adaptor installed in your PC? It seems as if you're modem has detected an ISDN line rather than Broadband. ISDN is normally 64k but can be doubled to 128.

Sorry about that copy and pasted from the plusnet forum
There are quite a few registry tweaks that can be carried out but due to the obvious risks in messing around with the registry, an easier option is to use a dedicated program. I've mentioned DrTCP above and another very advanced programme is 'Cablenut'. It's set up for PPPOE but can be easily adapted for PPPOA so you will need to use DrTCP aswell if you want to change MTU. So for those who want to go one stage further: Download and install Cablenut Download and save to hard disk Cablenutupdate I'll describe procedure for XP 512K ADSL. Setting RWIN 17256 MTU 1478 MSS 1438. First open DrTCP and set MTU& MTU RAS to 1478, The rest can be left blank/default . Save exit re-boot. In Cablenut Update open folder Win XP 2KDSL. Open file DSL PPPOE 512.256. In the right hand column change TcpRecvSegmentSize andTcpSendSegmentSize to your value of MSS in this case 1438. In both the right and left hand columns change TcpWindowSize and GlobalMaxTcpWindowSize to your value of RWIN in this case 17,256. Then save to registry exit and re-boot. Similarly for a 1meg line open the PPPOE file for 1000.256 change MSS as above 1438 change RWIN to 31636. The nearest for 2Meg is 1500.256 change MSS as above 1438 change RWIN 63272 . Top left column increase DefaultReceiveWindow to 262144. For other values of MTU use MSS as (MTU-40) and RWIN in multiples of MSS. Note : to return to windows defaults simply clear all boxes save to registry exit and re-boot.

Thanks All, for the information supplied.I have been down those routes. Although they didn't give me the information I need i.e. I purchased my Broadband from Bt Openworld but it shows as a IDSN PPPoA connection and not as an ADSL connection. See original post. To Greysts query - my original line was 56k and no, I don't have an IDSN adapter in my computer. It looks like I will have to bite the biscuit and pay the extortionate telephone charges for Bt Openworld technical services, and then still find I'm in the same boat. Thanks again to all who replied.
