I have recently upgraded my anytime account to freeserve broadband package. However, I have been unable to login to my webspace using a ftp software i.e terrapin I cannot login either to my FS webspace. The settings are exactly as they were when I had the anytime account where it was working fine, but when trying now to access my site through FREESERVE sitebuilder.freeserve.com service, it brings up a message saying "The Server Dropped Your Connection, it is possible that you do not have authority to connect to this server. If you are connecting to the internet check that you are using the correct dial-up account". Are there different settings now as I am on broadband, do Freeserve need to update my webspace for it to work on my new broadband account. THREE DAYS RUNNING I HAVE SENT THE ABOVE TO FREESERVE. I HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY REPLY!

I think there is a difference between Wanadoo BB service (which has been reliable in the 15 months I've had it) and Wanadoo Tech. support (which has ranged from non-existent to pathetic to excellent over the same period). Have you tried ringing the Broadband Help line 0870 010 2462 (not premium rate!) rather than waiting for a reply to your Emails?
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing - in my case it would be wonderful! - XP Home, IE6, Avant Browser

Yes I have changed to newer version of Zone Alarm! I wonder if that is the reason?
I am also very very disattisfied with Wanadoo customer help. I have 'e' mailed my problem 4 times in 3 days and have not had a reply! I will as you suggest have to ring them! Other users or potential customers for Freeserve Wanadoo should watch this space! I will say that the 'e' mail customer help in my case has not provided any reply! Thank goodness Web-User provide this forum!

No it's not Zone Alarm.
Guess what..."we appologise for the delay and one of our agents will answer your call shortly...over and over and over"...no help at all from Wanadoo BB support!!! I waited 15 minutes still no reply!!!!
I wonder if this is the service the new Wanadoo company is going to provide us?

Personally, I don't think it's anything to do with your firewall, or any other application/setup.
I signed up for Freeserve PAYG dial-up (as a back up to my BB connection). As per, I received web space, emails, etc. However, I can only connect to the web space server (FTP) via the dial-up connection. I guess this is to stop people creating accounts for the web space and using another ISP connection to administer the server space.
Did you receive another allocated web space? If so you might have to upload your site to the new space (not sure what that would mean to the URL!). Although, I suspect Freeserve would have to alter the access parameters of your dial-up site so you can connect via your new BB service. But don't be surprised if they say, 'tough, use the new web space provided'.
TFC Nothing is a problem for me...

Try logging into your webspace from another pc if you can and then you will know if it is a local problem or a freeserve problem
I had the same problem as you with oneandone, getting the same error message but it ended up being a local problem, luckly i was about to do a re format/fresh install of windows anyway , and once completed i could access my ftp no problem ( i am not saying to re format) but try and remember if you have changed any settings on your pc that may be causing this
And when i use sygate, unless i create a advanced rule for my ftp address, i cannot access so you might need to change your zone alarm settings
Or i may be talking out of my arse and it could all be down to wannadoo/freeserve

Wanadoo's Reply.

Well I have sent them an 'e' mail telling them, 1. I have asked Web-User to take up my complaint. 2. As a goodwill gesture; as since signing up I have lost access to my website, I request a reduction in my subscriptioon. 3. If it is not repaired soon I wish to cancel my agreement. Should they not allow me to I would seek advice from trading standards.
All I can say is that if this is the new Wanadoo they need to do something soon!

One week later 15-20 'e' mails to Wanadoo (auto) replys tell me to check their FAQ. I write back and tell them I need a human reply as I want to know why since changing to BB they appear to have severed my Terrapin Conection. Guess what I get another AUTO reply telling me to got ... you got it ... FAQ. I have tried too many times to speak on the telephone all I get is... YEP you got it ..."All of our operators are busy!" I have also snail mailed them and asked Web-user to use their clout to get a reply nothing! I would be cautious all those out there. I for one would not have signed up to Wanadoo had I had any idea of them going to cut off my service to Wanadoo and more importantly their lack of any customer support at all. One of the reasons I didn't go to a cheaper unknown BB provider was that I feared no cust. support! and this is what I get!
