Posting, Replying To & Editing Messages
      #64 - Tue Apr 08 2003 05:54 PM

You can only post a new message or reply to an existing message from a board index (new message) or from within a message thread (replies).

Whilst looking at a board index you will see an icon near the top of the screen labeled 'Post' which allows you to post a new message.

If you are looking at the contents of a message you will see an icon at the top of the message labeled 'Reply'. Click on this button to post a reply.

The button allows you to Send this Post to a Friend.

If you are the author of a message then you can edit it by clicking on the 'Edit' icon (though this is time-limited).

Before posting your message you can:

attach your Signature
edit your Signature
preview your message to check how it will look before it is posted for everyone to see.
On the Edit Screen you can:

Mark the post as Edited
Add, remove or edit your Signature
Delete the Message. (If there are other messages in the tread this may simply result in it being marked as 'Deleted'.)

I cannot edit one of my messages as I get this message "This post can no longer be edited because the maximum edit time has expired "

Can I delete a message I have posted?

I have been participating in a thread since January 6. My last message was today the 20th, but it is currently about four pages back. How do I reset this so that it appears in the correct date order. Thank you.

Do you advocate posting "thank-you's" out of courtesy when folk reply to a query or request - or if everyone did this would this not just clog up the system unnecessarily and is the unwritten pragmatic rule that forum thanks are implied even if not stated explicitly!??

In short, yes. As you say, a common courtesy.

Who knows, one may need help in the future and if the same person is to offer assistance they may be disinclined to do so if they were paid no mind after helping previously. Human nature, innit.
