recently I used the new BT cd to connect to the internet. Since then I cannot connect as I used to. Before if I clicked on my e-mail icon a splash screen used to appear and then I could log on no trouble. I now have to log on using bt alcatel icon this puts me onto the net on a blank page. I then have to click on the internet icon on the quick launch bar. I use XP and am on broadband, I also can't get on the net using the Interneticon on the start menu (I could before) all I get is cannot find server message. Please can anyone help, I couldn't get any help from Bt just the answer that's the way it works?????

Was the new CD used because you have just changed to Broadband? If so I suspect that you are automatically connecting to Broadband as and when you fire up your PC. Try this, switch on your PC, do not try to connect, open up IE and see if it brings up your start page, if it does then you are automatically connected. If you don't want to automatically connect you can alter the settings in IE Tools.

Thanks for the reply byron. The answer to you questions is no. I have been on broadband for about 2 years. the problem is I can log on using the broadband icon, but I cannot log on using the internet icon on the quick launch nor on the start menu. When logging on using the broadban icon all that happens is I log on to the net but no homepage etc just my desktop layout, I must then click on the icon on the quick bar to bring up my home page. Previously I was able to click on my e-mail programme or the icon in the quick launch and a splash screen would appear giving me the oppertunity to log on to either. All I have done is install a larger hdd. then installed all my programmes.
The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on.

Aha! The answer to this is simple, that is if I understand the question correctly. Go to your Email program, tools, options, connections, change. Then tick which option you want, which I believe is the third. Then opening your Email program will automatically connect to your Broadband. Similarly in IE., tools, internet options, connections, then tick the third item.
Hopefully this is what you are looking for. Simply launching either I.E. or Outlook will auto-connect and I.E. will go straight to what-ever home page you have designated.

Why don't you have it all log on automatically for you without pressing any icons whether in your quick launch or desktop? Drag the acatel speedtouch connection icon (or a copy) into your startup folder. This will connect as soon as boot up sequence is complete. Also drag an Outlook Express icon (or a copy) into the same startup folder, and this will check for emails every...you specify in options. To connect to your home page of your choice....also drag an IE icon (or copy) into the same startup folder and you'll get your home page. This is how my setup is.......except the with ie.I don't always want to go to my home page which is Google......but I'm there ready, and emails can be downloaded. Always have your firewall and av program running at startup too....for obvious reasons.
Always ask the right question, to the right person, and always get the right answer.

My thanks to both Oracle and Byron. Everything now ok, I used a combination of both your suggestion and Hey Presto! magic. Thanks again.
