Becoming a new user
      #56 - Tue Apr 08 2003 05:32 PM

To become a member of the forum click on the New User item on the forum menu.
On the New User screen you must enter a username and your email address.

Usernames must be between 3 and 16 characters - alphanumeric.
Please ensure that your email address is correct.
Once you have submitted your registration information you will be sent email confirmation. Your password will be randomly generated and included in this email. This password can be changed once you have logged in via your User Profile settings.

The email should arrive within about 15 minutes. If it does not then you have probably mistyped your email address. If this is the case try creating another account with a different username.

I am struggling at the moment. I have just registered as a new user and would like to post a message, but although I have spent a bit of time searching I don't know HOW to do it, or which specific forum to post my query to. Could you point me in the right direction please.
By the way my specific problem is that I have been "attacked": my home page in Explorer 6 has been changed to www.findthewebsiteyouneed.com and the home page control in Explorer has been greyed out. By the way I suspect that the offending website is a portal for dodgy things! I have definitely not clicked on one of the links, but I suspect my partner has because some bad stuff has been downloaded and I guess it was the website that lead to it... For example a new folder appeared in Windows called DIALPASS (I have deleted that!).

So I want to know a) how to fix the problem and also b) whether there is some organisation that one should report such matters to

Hi Danny
To make a new post, first find the appropriate board on the Main Index. In your case it would probably be All other Topics, in the Reader Helps Reader section. Once you have clicked on that category there will be a link on the top left hand side that says Post. Click this and enter your posting. You can preview it and chose to get replies sent to you via email.
Hope this helps

I'm in the process of trying to get started. I just read the following statement, could you tell me exactly what it means: "Please also be aware before posting that this site is fully indexed by major search engines and we are unable to remove posts that have been indexed".

I want to know if I should be concerned about what information a search engine would obtain and what they would do with it.

Thanks

Basically, Google, MSN and Yahoo spider this site, along with countless others. so that if you leave any personal information in your post, it WILL get picked up. So don't leave your address, tel nos, email addys etc, if you don't want the world and his dog to know them

Good advice. Actually, I've seen e-mail addresses on here edited out by the mods. It's nice to know you're looking out for our on-line privacy!

Thanks for the search engine information.

Now, can someone tell me exactly where to post the following message to receive assistance.

I attempted to clean my computer with Spybot and Ad-Aware but continue to have “Aurora” Pop-Ups and Malware files still appear when I run Norton Antivirus. I usually uninstall and reinstall everything on my computer when this happens. Hopefully, you can help me get rid of it another way.

Could you tell me what information you would need to help with my Spyware problem? I’m not at home but could send you the information later today. I would also like to know if you could recommend the best possible Anti-Spyware Software, I currently have a Free Microsoft version. Would I be better off buying it? If so, which one would you recommend.

Thanks

My recommendation would be to go to this thread and post a Hijack this log to the hijack this forum
