images not displaying

i have ie 6 and recently images have started to display sometimes and not othertimes - the red cross just shows - seems to affect some websites and not others

any help greatfully received

It may be that you need the Java plug in in order to run the applets that are used on some pages. Visit Java

thanks for those suggestions - java says wrong installer package when i try to install so i'm still stuck

I get this sometimes and if I right-click on the red cross and then click on Show Picture, the image displays.

The message about wrong installer package suggests that it might be an out of date Microsoft installer. Have you downloaded all the relevant Service Packs and Critical Updates from the Microsoft site? If not, try that first and then have another go at Java.
