Annoying toolbars (resolved)
      #52174 - Sun Mar 21 2004 05:49 PM

I have google toolbar to perform searches etc., but recently another toolbar popped up, called isearch, and I can't get rid of it. When I right click the toobars area, I can see the listing of toolbars with and without checkmarks, but it's all greyed out (except for 'text labels' on the bottom) and I can't make any changes. It's the same situation when i try to make changes through view/toolbars. Any idea how I can get back control of the toolbars I want and don't want? Thanks.

First of all download the following programmes: Spybot & Adaware

Update both of them first, then run both programmes and have them fix anything they find.

When you have run and fixed everything with Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware, please reboot before scanning, as not everything can be removed when Windows is running

Go to this page, and download 'Hijack This!'.

Unzip it, launch Hijack This, then press Scan, and press Save Log

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.

open that file
Go to Edit | Select all
Now click Edit | copy to copy it

Do not change anything just yet
Come back to the forum, Right Click and paste its contents here

Someone will come along and have a look at it, and advise you what still needs to be removed.
Please post your query to the boards as many hands make light work, and I'm not talking electricians! If your problem is solved, let us know so that others can learn.

Thanks for all the info, I ran spybot and adaware (on reboot as well) and removed a bunch of stuff. Then when I ran hijackthis and tried to save the text file, I got a message from norton saying I have a virus called Bloodhound.Exploit.6 (and that the log file I am trying to save is it), then it says access to file denied, and then unable to repair file. The file then exists but I can't access it, norton starts acting up again. What shall I do now? Thanks again.

Having done a bit of searching i'm confident this is a false positive on Norton's part, disable Norton just for the time it takes you to copy and paste your log, then enable it again. Also check that Norton's definitions are up to date.

Hi, first off restart HijackThis and tick off the following entries, then close all other windows (including this one) and click "Fix Checked":

R3 - URLSearchHook: iSearch Toolbar - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll
R3 - URLSearchHook: IncrediFindBHO Class - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\BHO\INCFIN~1.DLL
O1 - Hosts: 12.129.205.209 search.netscape.com12.129.205.209 sitefinder.verisign.com

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1C78AB3F-A857-482e-80C0-3A1E5238A565} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll
O2 - BHO: NavErrRedir Class - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - C:\PROGRA~1\INCRED~1\BHO\INCFIN~1.DLL

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SAHBundle] C:\DOCUME~1\K\LOCALS~1\Temp\bundle.exe

O16 - DPF: {AD7FAFB0-16D6-40C3-AF27-585D6E6453FD} - http://dload.ipbill.com/del/loader.cab

Next go to Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove and remove the 'KeenValue' and 'PowerSearch toolbar for IE' entries.

Reboot, then post another log, things should be better now.
You should also remove Incredimail as this is what caused your problems in the first place.

Hi, removed the entries you mentioned, but when I went to add/remove in control panel, I couldn't see keenvalue or powersearch toolbar for ie in the list (don't think I've seen them there before either). Same goes for incredimail, not there and not heard of it either. Rebooted, and pasted the new log. The unwanted toolbar is gone now but I still can't check/uncheck any of the rest.

Can you get rid of these two with HijackThis?

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SAHBundle] C:\DOCUME~1\K\LOCALS~1\Temp\bundle.exe

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,Shellnext = http://www.btopenworld.com/togetherinternet
O8 - Extra context menu item: &iSearch The Web - res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML

you can remove these 2, did you run the isearch removal tool.

If the toolbar problem still persists try repairing IE. Repair IE

Result! The uninstall worked just fine, and it's finally back to normal now! I also removed the two other items. Thanks a lot for all your help, very much appreciated.
