Direct Linking
      #513 - Tue Jun 03 2003 11:56 PM

Is there any software or online tool which can check my uploaded files to see what pages are directly linking to them?

For example, to check if anyone if directly linking to images.

You can get some information by typing link:http://www.yourdomain.com into a search engine like Google or All the Web. You can also try this with individual pages by typing in the entire URL, though unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with images.

For more detailed information you'll need access to your log files. Most of the paid-for hosts allow you to view these - they're usually stored in a directory on your site. When you download these you can use a program like Analog to find the information you need (though this can get quite technical).

Alternatively, your host may offer you its own statistics service that you can view directly on the web.

Type
link:www.yourwebsite.com

into google and it'll show you everybody it has down as linking to you..

www.linkpopularity.com gives you numbers, and a link to get the same info on hotbot and lycos..
