running in the back ground
      #441571 - Fri Nov 06 2009 01:44 PM

not sure if this is the correct place for this question! I an running XP home
I was wondering what is the best way to find out what programs and processes are running on my pc, and how I know if I can stop them without causing any problems. I know I can see Processes running when I bring up task Manager, but not sure how to know what ones to stop! I just feel that there are things running that I don't need, and is slowing my pc down

thanks

You can reduce the number of programs that start up when you switch on the computer by downloading and installing the free Quick Startup (incomplete list for 64-bit), which is better than Microsoft’s msconfig, get it here http://www.glarysoft.com/qs.html?tag=download

Once installed, click on (highlight) an entry, then in the left pane choose Disable (recommended) or Delete. If you are unsure about an entry and want to know more about it before disabling or deleting it, highlight it and then click ‘More information’ at the bottom of the screen.
