AVG 9 or Avast 4.8
      #441549 - Fri Nov 06 2009 08:03 AM

I have been looking for the latest reviews for these free versions and can't find them.
Does WU mag recommend AVG now above Avast? (Due to the latest issues spread on AVG) or is Avast still top when it comes to software reviews?

If anybody knows, give me a shout as thinking of changing to AVG from Avast if WU says AVG performs better.

Hi

I use AVG 9 and find it ok for my needs, it's down to individual choice.

As it's free it wont cost you anything to try it yourself and make up your own mind rather than the opinions of others.

We used AVG for ages with no problems, then had a few compatibility issues (which are now sorted I understand) and moved to AVAST (just wanted cover and could not be bothered to go back to AVG once AVAST was up and running). I found there was not a lot to choose between them to be honest and it will boil down to personal taste. Try one for a while and see how you get on - you can always switch to the other if it doesn't suit.

Thank's for both your input's.

Decided to go over to AVG from Avast. what made me decide? Well Avast wants me to register Yet again as it has been a year. They want all me details yet again, even though they already have them. I know they want them for marketing and I appreciate it is a free product, but it is still hassle.

Lets go for AVG!

Yes, we had the reregister with Avast on all the family machines this year. Still it is free. Mind, they do hide the 'Free' link quite well so you have to search around!

I've just renewed my Avast licence, only needed to fill in my name & email address, I only do this once using the same licence number for all PCs/laptops

I agree with a comment above that there's little to choose between them in practice; the main consideration in my experience is potential compatibility issues with other security software.
