Question about Realplayer browser downloads.
      #441500 - Thu Nov 05 2009 05:22 PM

I'm using Firefox as my browser and have the Realplayer Browser Record Plugin add on. I've had no problems with downloading videos from Youtube to my hard disk, but all of a sudden this function wont work. I've tried disabling and then enabling the add on and I've also tried the tools option on Realplayer itself, but to no avail. I tried it on IE browser and it still works on there fine, but I don't want to keep switching browsers every time I want to download a video. If it's any help, I've noticed that the jigsaw piece has disappeared when I click the 'extensions' tab on the tools > add ons link.
Much appreciated for any help on resolving this matter, in advance.

It seems that this is an issue already known to Real. Have a look here for a small bit of info! My jigsaw piece has gone too, but I don't think that's significant. Another post from Real here from which the upshot seems to be to wait for a fix and use an alternative browser in the meantime.

Ahh, so that's why. Many thanks for the 'heads up', Madeline.

You're welcome. I always think it's nice to know that it's a problem with the program developers and not something wrong on my PC!

Hi Steve & Madelaine...

I had the same problem with the realplayer plugin. I downloaded the 'YouTube Downloader', but it wasn't anywhere as near user friendly.

My workaround was to download Nightly Tester Tools , a Mozilla addon.

This is a tool that lets developers work with Mozzy. Once installed, restart firefox.

Then go to tools>>addons....

You will see a box in the bottom right hand corner that says 'override all compatibility'

It will warn you that forcing addons to be compatible can mess your FFX up, so do this at your own peril

It then goes through your incompatible addons 1 by 1. I just skipped the ones I didn't want.

My RealPlayer Browser plug in now works, I get the popup at the top if the youtube vid, and it downloads straight into my realplayer library.

I don't seem to have encountered any problems with FFX since doing this.

Hope this helps you,

Mugsy.

I was too late to edit my last post......

Also note that if you use nightly tester tools, in the blue band at the top of the FFX browser, you will now have a big long 'build number'.

Whilst harmless, I found this to be quite annoying. Once you have made the Realplayer plugin compatible, simply uninstall nightly tester tools, and the build number disappears, whilst leaving a working Plugin

You could also try using MR Tech Toolkit to make the Real plugin compatible with your current version of Firefox; just right click on the add-on, then click 'Make compatible'. You'll get a warning, but you can ignore it, restart Firefox and see if the add-on works .
I've got this add-on and have used it successfully, but I wouldn't use it in this case. The problem lies with Real, not Firefox, and I think it would be better to let Real sort this one out.
