Since installing W7 my computer uses the boot manager when I switch on, any ideas?
I have installed it twice now.

That's correct, bootmgr in Vista and Windows 7, boot.ini in XP and Win98!

Or do you mean you have to select from a boot menu when you have just a single operating system installed?

Yes I have to select with just Windows 7 installed.
It lists W7 twice.
I updated from Vista (Dell computer)

You must have had a previous abortive attempt to install!

Although the built-in BCDEdit can manage the booting, I suggest you download EasyBCD, scroll down to the bottom here http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 and get the instructions here http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/EasyBCD+Documentation+Home

After you have installed it, go to the Add/Remove Entries Tab to remove the ‘rogue’ entry.

At some later date you may want to remove the failed installation.
