Gold for Cash TV Adverts
      #441484 - Thu Nov 05 2009 02:59 PM

How many more new companies are going to start their 'Gold for Cash' TV adverts!

Does anyone actually send there gold bits to these companies?

They must do, can't say that I would. After all what happens if it or the money goes astray

Considering the cost of TV advertising, it must be paying them. The blonde in the blue suit one looks more like a computerised/digital animation than real.
Better watch what I'm saying, she may be a Webuser !

This site explains why so many firms are trying to buy scrap gold. There's a lot on money to be made.

Quote:
Our advice to owners of scrap gold and second-hand jewellery is to shop around, but more importantly find out the weight (most people use grams), of your gold, know what carat it is, and make sure you get a sensible price for it.

I find the one where the couple run round to a rip off of The Simpsons music particularly disturbing!

I would also imagine that a fair amount of people do not know what is and what is not gold, and would imagine ordinary jewllers etc. are getting fed up with valuations - when others benefit from their knowledge.

I have just googled to find the best deal for scrap gold. I have a small amount to sell. The two best payers are one in the Birmingham Jewellery Centre and the other in Hatton Gardens. The on-line calculator tells me these permenant jewellers will pay me at least 3 times the amount being offered by the TV advertisers. The feedback received for the Birmingham jewellers from happy customers, who first sent their gold to a TV advertiser, speaks for itself. In one case they waited for 2 weeks for their gold to be returned after refusing and returning the cheque. The Birmingham jeweller paid them almost 8 TIMES the TV offer!!

Is that true? Then perhaps I should get into the business.
No but seriously, not only do they hurt my eyes with tacky commercials, they also cheat honest and stupid people. I bet my grandmother has fallen for this. She actually looked much less of a pimp last time I saw her, she probably has sold all her gold jewelry.

PROFANITY REMOVED for stealing my soon-to-be-inherited scrap gold!

'all that glitters is not gold'

This applies to scrap jewelry and the firms offering to buy it.

I actually researched the subject some more after reading this thread. If you ain't happy with the cash you get and you'd like your jewelry back, that's often OK. But the thing is that they have to put it through a chemical testing (acid and the likes involved), which damages the jewellry, to discover the carat. So if you're unhappy with the payment you will get broken goods back.

PS I have spoken to my grandmother now and she told me she hadn't sold her gold and that I was "insulting her intelligence by even thinking of it".
