Strange pop up box on log off / shut down
      #440738 - Sat Oct 24 2009 02:16 PM

Am running brand new retail copy of windows 7 professional, which arrived from PC world even before it's official release date! The only things I have installed at the moment are Acronis True Image 2010, a couple of epson printer drivers, which it automatically installed for me and a copy of sophos antivirus.

When I log off/shut down, a box flashes on screen just before the 'shutting down' screen appears. Unlike the old XP 'ending task' boxes, this one seems to appear on a screen of its own with a dark background, but it flashes on and off so quickly I can't read it.

I just wondered if this is normal? Has anyone else noticed it? If so, what's it for? I can't really see anything in event logs that indicate anything major is going wrong.

Thanks,

Jonathan

I have seen that. I believe it is indeed the same as happens in XP when a program doesn't end quickly at computer shutdown. It gives a dialogue box that shows a moving bar and gives the option to shut the program manually. Sometimes it hangs around long enough to read it and sometimes it only appears briefly before the program shuts down anyway. Same in Windows 7 but different in appearance.
