The Web is Ultra slow today
      #441097 - Thu Oct 29 2009 02:08 PM

I can get nowhere today ,Many sites are inaccesible Google is Spotty (Image search are showing blank frames)
AOL Mail is down
Having to rely on my Favourites to get to some places
Even W/U is taking a Minute to appear and it is an "accesible site"

My BB speed is showing No slowdown

Tried Google Chrome too ...Same results!

Can only navigaite on several Favourites and Google "save"seaches though on Image searches Many sites are returning blank frames

Never seen an Outage lin this form
The Web was a bit spotty AM Hours Odd sites unreachable (No error messages)
Even the BOINC server service is Not working 100% and that usually needs little or no attention, thats been onging for at least 48 hours

Dannot get to their Forum to see what the Situation is World Wide

Ditto the Internet traffic sites

FYI
I Edited this Topic and It took 5 minutes to see the result... Ca 2 minutes to see the Acknowlegement message!
It is That Slow (and W/U is a working Site)

Full speed Back and All sites responding Just before 9 PM

I rang the AOL Help line and they said there were no problems

Only other thing was it was Raining Heavy outside today but surely If the Cable was affected by water penetration. Logically I'd have NO service and No Phone line
In fact The Line quality when I rang up AOL was Loud and Noise free
So that discounts that angle

I don't think Its an ISP contention overload either. Otherwise we'd be looking at a blank screen!
I thnk this Issue will return again. Has happened twice in 4 days on the 29th of October and today, the 1st of November
And we have few clues to see where it originates

Monday PM and its back !
Am having no joy at finding News even on the Blogs
Only place that may have news is on Google Groups and that is "off limits" in this situation

I have even tried Search engines like www.surfwax.com to bypass the queue and No Joy whatsoever Can generate a List but beyond that we are seeing [n]No Internet Access notices

It might be interesting to see if any of your "internet-enabled" neighbours are experiencing a similar problem because, regardless of the ISP, all ADSL services will be delivered via BT's network.

"Confirmation" on AOL being at Fault "locally?" [Re: BedstorfromAP]
      #441611 - Sat Nov 07 2009 03:32 AM

Just had a 3rd hour long outage
I have made some enquiries Locally and I find that Its just AOL that is flicking on and Off
Sometimes the mail service goes. Other times complete No access
I ring up the Customer services they will say there is "No Problem" Yet I and many others at the recieving end, are getting increasingly spotty service!

I want to change ISP, Yet whats on Offer locally are often poor services of about 2 MB Max.(supposed to be "up to 8MB")
Need to move just 2 miles east, where they are showing 5 MB plus on the Broadband test sites maps and they pay the same as Me .
AOL drags along in the lower part of the League there too!

It reminds me of when we had AOL and loyalty kept me with them as they were my 'first'. If I remember a lot of the AOL boards were filled with customers with exactly the same issue as you are having so it seems little has changed.

We did however also discover a fault in the telephone line just outside the drive under the pavement. That was only actually fixed this year and we cancelled AOL about 2/3 years ago. That combined with AOL explained a lot of the outs - there used to be a way of doing a line check on BT by simply dialling a number. Anyone?

We now use Virgin Cable - not a lot of use I know if you aren't in a cabled area, but actually never had a real issue with them. One or two outs in the last few years and they were quickly fixed.

You might be better opting for a 'deal' and seeing how you go. I still use an old AOL email address - when we quit I went back to the site and restarted the same user name.

My brother has just gone "Sideways" and Joined TalkTalk who are Indirectly linked with AOL Via the Carphone Warehouse
Got a New Laptop with Windows 7 new router too on a deal
He lives in the same Post code as me
As for me I shall have to Plug on somehow I think I'm still "In Contract" till Next year(subject to confirmation)

Several years ago somebody suggested to the Local council that Telewest (Now Virgin) take over the Communal Aerial (and Upgrade) And It was Ignored in favour of the Council using a Private contractor who could not keep up with the Maintenance, they went Bankrupt in 2 years and the Service deteriorated
Now, there is only a Handful of homes with this service ,and the quality is Lousy. The rest of us had Aerials fitted free And the Private homes had to stump up for a New Aerial (Some people had a good year selling those)
Ironically, the Previous adminstration threatened Penalties if an outdoor Aerial was seen on Council Property (even Satellite dishes)
This admiistration couldn't care less and don't want to renew/redevelop the Communal aerial and the estate Phone Network which are dating from 1963-4 on the older estates .
Any local BT roadwork activity is on the local Industrial estates. Both seem meaner than Scrooge when It comes to Improvements
