Please copy this page to *Notepad* and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Open *notepad* and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:

Killall::

File::
c:\windows\Xzihagijobake.bin
c:\windows\Rmidakidalo.dat
c:\documents and settings\David\Local Settings\Application Data\{E6264B27-973A-4737-A202-28679E0A65C2}

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe which is on the Desktop.

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.

This will start ComboFix again.(it may ask you to reboot your computer)

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt

Please copy and paste the ComboFix.txt along with a fresh HijackThis log in your next reply please and
let me know how it is running.

*Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall*

Re: Combofix log [Re: digitaldave007]
      #441047 - Wed Oct 28 2009 10:31 PM

Please copy this page to *Notepad* and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Open *notepad* and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Quote:

Killall::

File::
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etuwfjixrevpetsd.sys
c:\documents and settings\David\Local Settings\Application Data\{E6264B27-973A-4737-A202-28679E0A65C2}

Please copy and paste the ComboFix.txt and try HJT again.

*Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall*

--------------------
IF I HAVE SAVED YOU MONEY, PLEASE CONSIDER GIVING A DONATION TO HELP IN MY FIGHT AGAINST MALWARE.

When the only tool you own is a hammer, every problem begins to look like a nail.

Ok, tried running Malwarebytes and saw the same message. Was able to uninstall the program and re-installed successfully with update and scan (below). Also able to uninstall HJT and Superantispyware. Tried to uninstall AVG 8.5 with the intention of replacing with AVG 9, but the un-install failed towards the end with the following message:

Local machine: installation failed
Initialization:
Warning: Checking of state of the item file avgcsrx.exe failed.

you need to run MBAM again as you didn't tell MBAM to remove any bad files. :-

  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

then post the log back here. to make sure they were removed.

you had AVG 8 installed, try reinstalling AVG.

Actually, I posted the log in this thread before carrying out the deletions as thought you may have wanted to see what it found.
Anyway, after removing the bad files, MBAM asked me to re-boot, which I did and ran the scan again which I have attached:

    combofix cleanup.

    Time for some housekeeping

    • Click START then RUN
    • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK
• When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"
The above procedure will:

    • Delete the following:
• ComboFix and its associated files and folders.
    • VundoFix backups, if present
    • The C:\Deckard folder, if present
    • The C:_OtMoveIt folder, if present

  • Reset the clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions, if required.
  • Hide System/Hidden files, if required.
  • Reset System Restore.
Then :-

    Download and scan with CCleaner
    1. CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbar-free or Slim versions instead of the Standard Build.
    2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
      Then select "Cookies"
Move any cookies you wish to retain, e.g. login cookies, in the left-hand window to the right-hand window by highlighting them and clicking the right arrow in the centre.

    3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
      In the Windows Tab:

      • Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section.
      • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
      • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
      • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
      • Clean any others that you choose.

      In the Applications Tab:

      • Clean all entries in the Mozilla Firefox Section.
      • Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
      • Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
      • Clean any others that you choose.

    4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
    5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
    6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
    7. Click "exit" when done.

    then DEFRAG your C:\ drive.

to help speed up your system.

then let us know how the computer is running.

    HOW DID I GET INFECTED

Ok, uninstalled Combofix succesfully, ran CCleaner and removed a load of files. Ran the disk defrag (disk-keeper) and after several hours was stuck at 42% complete. TBH, I think this happened when I last ran it, which was probably about a year ago.

System is running ok now, just ran another MBAM scan with no infections and installed AVG9.

The only problem I'm having is I'm not able to re-install Windows Defender.

    1. Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the hard disk that you want to check. (C:\ drive)
    2. Click Properties, and then click Tools.
    3. Under Error-checking, click Check Now. A dialog box that shows the Check disk options is displayed,
    4. Use the following procedure:

    * To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.

Note If one or more of the files on the hard disk are open, you will receive the following message:
The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?
Click Yes to schedule the disk check, and then restart your computer to start the disk check.

what happens when you try to install windows defender?

let me know how it goes and post a fresh HJT log.

Ok, ran CKDSK after re-booting, left for a few hours, when finished logged back in to Windows.

Tried re-installing Windows Defender again and about a third of the way into the install see the following message:

The Installer has insufficinent privileges to modify this file: C\Program Files\ Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exe

you already have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware running, why do you want windows defender ?
to much security can cause conflicts.
if you are determined to install it, try disabling all your security software then try installing it.

Well, only because I had it before the infection although TBH it wasn't very good anyway. I don't have SuperAntiSpyware, I just tried it as an alternative when MBAM wasn't working and have since uninstalled it. I currently only use AVG9 and MBAM and system seems more stable now.

Apart from that, does everything else look clean from the last HJT log, and can you recommend a good 'free' firewall as the Windows one isn't very good.

Rerun HJT,and put a checkmark beside these :-

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SUPERAntiSpyware] C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware.exe

now close all windows and browsers and click FIX CHECKED

for a firewall try ZONEALARM FREE

    also install SPYWAREBLASTER

just check for updates once a week or so, then shut it down.

    the rest looks clean.

Ok, did the HJT thing, and am currently downloading ZoneAlarm and Spyware blaster as advised.

Just want to say big thanks again for helping me with that pesky Security Tool problem, was reluctant to use Combofix again but it sure is a powerful tool.

combofix is a very powerful tool, that is why it should only be used when asked to by someone who knows how to use it properly.

glad you're sorted, happy to help
