Windows 7 woes begin
      #440900 - Mon Oct 26 2009 08:54 PM

it was never going to be glitch free. For example...

And no, not a post from a smug Linux user; it's just the way new Windows OSs go, and I do use Windows occasionally.

Hi,

I personally never ever use the upgrade option when I install a new o/s, that way I minimise the risk of software conflicts, As a result I've never had any major problems.

I'm currently running vista and win7 in separate partitions and I've had win 7 running for nearly a week and so far, apart from so having to replace some older hardware, I've had not problems either running or using it.

Saying that, I do know someone that had problems using the upgrade option, turns out that is you want to upgrade from vista to 7 and you have zonealarm installed, get rid of zonealarm and even after you install win7 zonealrm 9 (free edition) is not yet available but the paid for version is.

hope it helps,

Ray

Comodo Firewall works a treat with W7.

As does - AVG9 AV, and Malwarebytes.

However, mine wasn't an upgrade as I've just bought a new laptop and so far I think it's fantastic - imho a vast improvement on Vista which I had been using previously.

One problem I have is the cursor jumping back to somewhere along what I am typing and unless I notice it I end up with a jumbled mess
I did have a problem with the external HDD but cured that by pulling out the power cable in error but it cured the error 43 code
another thing is the browser keeps freezing thought it was just internet explorer but firefox does it as well

I've been using it for about two months, full install not upgrade, got it free from my university before release. I have had no real problems with it, other then some driver issues on my laptop, but these are sorted now. It is definitely better then Vista, but having used it for a couple of months, I don't think I would have upgraded had I not got it for free.

That pretty much sums up how I feel. You get the impression that retailers are offering you a bargain if they ask for less than £60 for Home Premium, but Apple's new Snow Leopard is 'only' £25 in comparison. But people just keep on loving Micro$oft...
