Vista unfamiliarity and some errors/problems..........
      #440805 - Sun Oct 25 2009 12:29 PM

Ok, so about 6 months ago, I had to get a new PC - which naturally came with Vista. So I thought I'd leave it on the system to see what all that fuss was about (prior to that, I was a "linux only" user).

the errors/problems that keep being shown up are to do with installing and/or updating existing software. This includes the latest windows messenger, AVG free, quicktime, to name but a few.

I can't give a precise error message as I just get really p****d off and reboot back into linux when it shows up (toys out of pram I suppose).

All of the issues seem to relate to %APPDATA%\ as various apps/updates can't access it or whatever it does.

Now I've found some stuff about it being a "systemwide variable", but that means little or nothing to me, I also found some stuff about having to edit the registry (linux doesn't have one so that's gone straight over my head) so I don't know what to do about that.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction as I normally have to use windows once a week and at the moment can't ?????

TVM in advance for any suggestions/assistance

regards
