No matter how well you protect your valuable data with encryption, passwords, mirrored disks and backups, there's still a good chance you'll loose the lot if somebody breaks in and steals your laptop or the PC off your desk. This lead me to look at online backup solutions to protect my precious family photos and home videos, all of which we sitting on a single hard drive with no backup.
I tried lots of online backup options, many of which had limited capacity and costing the earth. Eventually I found JungleDisk (www.jungledisk.com). With JungleDisk you get access to a genuinely unlimited reserve of online storeage, hosted by either Amason S3 or RackSpace Cloud Files. Then you simply pay for whatever storeage you use each month. And at just $0.15 per GB per month, it's fantastically good value for money compared with many of the comparable offerings.
You simply install a small app which lives in the system tray, configure the backup, and away you go. Your storage can even be configured to appear as an additional drive letter so you can drag and drop files to it on the fly. And, if you have several PCs you can synchronise files between them (in the latest beta version).
For most home users the Desktop edition does everything you will ever need, but for the more advanced users there are workground and server editions also available.
Now if my laptop gets stolen or the hard drive fails, I know my valuable files and photos are all safe online.
