my friend has a packard bell istart 2380 running vista basic, he has just installed 2x modules of 1GB DDR2 pc5300 667 RAM & no matter what he does when these are installed the pc will not start, he says it just runs the fan extremely fast, i asked if he had definetely pressed them home, but when he puts theoriginal 512MB back in it runs perfect again, could this be a faulty motherboard? or has anyone else had this problem?

It sounds more like incompatible RAM. Did he definitely check that the memory is the correct type for his particular motherboard and that the motherboard supports 2GB?
Does it also fail to boot if only one of the 1GB sticks is installed?

We both have been on several RAM suppliers websites & put in his model no. etc & even the packard bell website says that it will take up to 4 of these 1 GB modules, however he purchased 2 of these before & the same happened, so i tried them in my pc & they where damaged but i am now wondering wether his pc had done this, & yes it does the same with just 1x 1GB stick, this pc has never had any bios changes made to it from new etc so we are now baffled. the motherboard is:- Boston (Asus M2NS-NVM). if anyone knows of any issues with this model?
