Hi, Please forgive me if this is in the wrong section. I've had a good search, both here and on the Microsoft knowledge base and there's nothing that really addresses the problem. As I've said in the title, Windows Update keeps reminding me to download and install two particular important updates, which I've done a number of times now, apparently successfully. Details below.....
Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB941833)
Installation date: ‎23/‎10/‎2009 11:31
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Recommended
This update resolves reliability and application compatibility issues in Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2. By installing this update, you can achieve better reliability and application compatibility. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.

Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 (KB954430)
Installation date: ‎23/‎10/‎2009 11:31
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Important
A security issue has been identified in Microsoft XML Core Services (MSXML) that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be removed.
More information: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=128803
Help and Support: http://support.microsoft.com
As you can see, the installation status of both is marked as successful, so is this a major problem? Everything with the system appears to be running smoothly. I have Malware, Ad-Aware and Avast running. Has anything snuck through????
All help as ever gratefully recieved,

Hi
It might be one of those things that you have to go through the install process again to get rid of the nagging update.

Thanks for the reply mate.
Yep, done that, an extra 2 or 3 times now. Still keeps reminding me.
One thing I have noticed........... in the 'view update history' pane, it's telling me they have installed successfully every time. However, in the 'Installed History' pane, there is no sign of them???
I'm assuming they haven't installed correctly at all?
Just off to work now. I think I may HJT this tomorrow for our experts to look at.
Thanks again smifff

Hi
In the last lot of updates I had about 10 that didn't install correctly on one of my machines, but my problem was the program guard in Online Armour Firewall that blocked the changes. I would suggest you have a look at any security software first that might be doing the same to you.

Hi....
When you say you have AdAware running, does that mean ADWatch too?
I had these until about 2 months ago, and in the end decided they were useless.
Adwatch WILL BLOCK some windows updates.....
Turn it off & it'll be ok....
I found Adwatch/AdAware blocked the things I did want, & did nothing to stop the things I didn't want...
Hope this helps you

Thanks mate, I'll take a look, although I'm only using Windows' own firewall, (I know, I know, but it just seems to have worked for me pretty well so far), so I can't see that that would cause a problem would it?

Thanks for the reply Mugsy.
Nope, only using Ad-Aware. Not using Adwatch.
