Did my Comcast TCP Optimizer work as intended?
      #440527 - Wed Oct 21 2009 02:32 AM

Hello,
I received the above link from my cable provider to optimize my service. Below are the before and after results according to http://testmy.net. Could you tell me if it helped? Or if I can make any tweaks? Thanks, Alan

The results you've shown indicate:

Download speed increased from 661 kBps to 891 kBps (up by 35%)

Upload speed increased from 386 kBps to 448 kBps (up by 16%)

This would appear to suggest an improvement in performance. However, some "optimisers" operate by compressing data which can improve the transfer speed of data that isn't already compressed. Files such as .JPG which are already compressed, may not transfer any more quickly.

The reality is that, if your actual connection speed with the ISP is 5 Mbps, you won't transfer more than 5 Megabits of data in a second, although the degree to which the data is compressed might vary. However, the "optimiser" could just be tweaking settings to get the best out of your internet connection, which hadn't previously been achieving its full potential.
