It depends how ‘big’ the file is as to the best method of sending it.

It can be broken into smaller pieces in an email client such as Outlook Express or Windows Live mail.
The recipients email client will automatically join them together for you to form the original file.

OE & WLM are very similar:
Go to Tools -> Accounts -> Select an Account -> Properties -> Advanced -> Sending.
Check the radio button for ‘Break apart messages bigger than’, and use say 2048 kb (2MBs) -> OK -> Close.

If the file you want to send is say 12MB in size, it will now be sent in 6 parts at 2MB each.

However, if you want to send much bigger files, many folks use a website such as -->> You Send It <<-- which works Ok.

Give them both a try. Send something both ways to yourself.

Unfortunately Gmail won't join broken apart files. I've just tried. Your best option is to use You Send It or a similar service..
The recipient is notified of the file via email, and is then download to their system should they want to view it.

However, when files are sent to a Gmail account, they are on Googles server(s) and not on the recipients system.
