I am developing a web site, which I hope to have ready by the end of the year, by then I shall obviously have my domain name sorted out
The site preparation will take me a bit of time as I've just started learning about HTML, CSS etc.
I do have a domain name in mind, which I feel is an excellent choice and it is still available, which ends with .co.uk
The option on most sites is to buy it for only 2 years. I have not seen .co.uk names being sold for any longer than this period. I would probably buy for longer if i could.
Is there a catch with this 2 year option
If, in 2 years my site is great and I am earning money, will I be able to extend my use of this domain for the same 'sort of price' or will there be a sudden hike in the price.
Any coments would be greatly appreciated.
many many thanks !!

I've been buying domain names from LCN (was Telivo) for years and the renewal rate has remained virtually the same as when I bought them originally (risen a few pence over the period, as would be expected) - .co.uk TLD's are currently £6+VAT for two years.
Most kosher registrars are the same. There's no catch.
All I would say is keep your hosting separate from your registration as you're more likely to want to change hosting, and not being tied in to the one company makes life that much easier in such an event.

Registration of all UK based domain names is ultimately controlled by "Nominet" and they can only be registered for two years at a time. Nominet don't sell the domains directly, but whichever company you buy through should remind you to renew your registration several months before it expires.

If it's available then purchase it, don't hang around. The domain name you want will be there one day and gone the next.

Hi Sandhound
(1)
That's actually very good advice yopu gave me.
I do have an initial name in mind, but actually also several others, on the same theme so to speak. I suppose I would be devastated if the names were taken. I shall therefore try and sort out a purchase in the next couple of days, probably 20 names at first
I shall use LCN, recommended earlier and I had also seen earlier recomendations for Telivo.
Is the purchase pretty easy ? Do you get an e-mailed or written document showing you have the name ?
(2)
I clicked on your web site and was very impressed. It looks a pretty simple site (probably not the case though) and way out from the 'ordinary'
I would give it 10/10
(3) I'm sure the weather in Woring is a fair bit warmer than here in Whitley Bay
thanks again !

Yes - Some let you pay using PayPal, UK Cheapest I prefure using P/P.

With P/P you get an e-mail receipt and Nominet send an e-mail also with a link to download your domain certificate(s).

Thanks - for the 10/10. That site was the first one I wrote, still has a few errors on some pages.

Hi
Thank you all for your replies
After reading up on the matter, I came up with a few questions to ask my chosen domain registrar.
I e-mailed the same questions to a few companies and have picked my rtwo egistrars, based upon the speed of their eply and the answers provided.
Full marks go to daily.co.uk, HeartInternet, DomainMonster and LCN
