Hi,
I posted a message here yesterday but can't find it anywhere so perhaps I forgot to press "Submit".
I want to do a clean install of Windows 7 but can't see a way of formatting my C: drive so as to remove Windows XP. Could someone point me in the right direction, please? As far as I know there isn't a facility on the installation CD for doing a pre-install format and I read somewhere that Windows 7 doesn't overwrite an existing Windows installation but creates a new partition. I don't want a new partition because I also have Ubuntu on the hard disc and I don't know whether Windows 7 would "sabotage" it by taking its space on the HD

The DVD does have a partitioning and formatting function. The installation sequence is:
Boot from the DVD, choose ‘Press any key to boot from CD/DVD’ and the install sequence is Loading files, you type the Language, Time/Currency, Keyboard. Click Install now, Setup is starting message, click to accept the License and click Custom for a clean install. If you want to delete/create/format partitions, do it by clicking 'Drive Options Advanced' and set it up accordingly.
Now the actual install will start. The sequence is copying files, expanding files, installing features, installing updates, reboot. Don’t press a key when it reboots, just wait. The screen may flash and it will reboot. Type User Name, Computer Name, Password (or ignore it), type the Product key but don't allow Activation. If you receive a Connect to network message, ignore it. It takes about 20 minutes to install and requires roughly 8GB of HDD space.

Many thanks BurrWalnut, that was a great help. I will now get on and install it. In the meantime, I am PMing you about something else.
