Open the Services window ("Start > Run", type services.msc and click OK), scroll down to the Print Spooler entry and double click it to open its Properties. Check that the service is "Started" and that its startup type is set to "Automatic". If that's OK, it may be a problem with the printer, which requires you to reinstall it.

Hi Mike Thanks for your quick response, have done exactly as instructed and the print spooler line reads-----Loads files---Started----Automatic----Local system-----so I presume all OK. Then uninstalled printer(new HP F 4180 Deskjet) but when trying to reinstall the software disc, the computor drive whirred for 30 seconds but nothing came up on screen.Have now successfully put the printer onto the wifes laptop but my computor not only didnt recognise the installation disc it wont recognise any of my discs of holiday pics. These were all burnt on this computor and all worked last week. What have I done Mick??????????

First thing to try is probably a System Restore back to the point last week when all was working properly.

Hi Mike, System restore completed which brought up the "trayapp" problem but after visiting a couple of forums , putting my printer software in it has cured it. I still cant play any of my own photo cd's nor can I download any new pictures from my camera but am working on it .Thanks again, Regards IAN PLANT
