Thousands of Windows Live Hotmail passwords have been leaked online, according to the Neowin.net tech blog.
According to Neowin, it received information from a source claiming that a "hack or phishing scheme" allowed hackers to post passwords from thousands of Hotmail accounts.

Neowin first viewed the passwords on a developer forum on Pastebin.com. The posting was added to the site on October 1. According to Neowin, it saw "part" of the posted list and "can confirm the accounts are genuine and most appear to be based in Europe."
Although it was unsure how many accounts were hacked, the original list displays accounts with names starting with "A" and "B." It included users with @hotmail.com, @msn.com, and @live.com domains, the publication claimed.
Regardless of where you live, do check your account and swap over Passwords

I read about this on the BBC site after hearing it mentioned in a news summary.
Although it's probably a good idea to change your Hotmail password, I probably won't do so for the following reasons: 1. That password is used only for Hotmail. 2. I use the account only for newsletters and confirmation of orders from a few (4 or 5) shopping sites, a couple of other newsletters and nothing else. 3. Although I use my Hotmail account on shopping sites, each one has a different password. 4. There is no sensitive info, such as bank or card details, there.
A couple of other useful links:
Windows Live Blog
Windows Live Help
There is no record on this PC of passwords or any other sensitive info.

I probably will change a few passwords, it's reminded me i don't do that often enough.
Wonder if we'll ever find out what happened to allow this loss of passwords!

As far as I can tell from the news I've heard on the radio, it's some sort of phishing attack.
