hi, i am having trouble with my mouse with my dell dimension 3100 pc.
when the desktop first loads up sometimes the mouse does not work. i go to:
control panel> system> hardware> device manager>
and when i look three things are always not working properly:
1) Display adapters: one works one doesn't
2) Human Interface Devices: mouse one doesn't work properly
3) Other devices: Ethernet Controller doesn't work properly
When i try updating the drivers for them it just comes up asking me to insert a cd but I didn't get a cd-rom with my desktop because it says i should use system restore or dell pc restore. i dont want to try these though because i have been having this problem with my mouse for over two years now and i do not want to go that far back.
Can i get the driver i need for my mouse from the dell website? the problem is though i have to uninstall the driver i have already for the mouse, and when i do that then the mouse stops working. To get it working at the moment i have to go to my device manager and click on HID Device and disable then enable it again to get it working, which is a hassle.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
colsy

On Dells there is often a drivers folder on C:
Look in there and run the .exe files that relate to the drivers for Display and Ethernet.
The mouse is a different issue as it won't have Dell drivers. They use Generic Windows drivers.
Do the suggestion above first then we'll look at sorting the mouse.

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!
