Hi All, if I use hotmail in firefox, the spell checker facility doesn't seem to work. When I click on the spellchecker tab, all I get is a dialogue box saying " Youre using a web browser that checks spelling automatically"
I typed in mis-spelled words on purpose to see if any were highlighted by a red squiggley line, but none were shown to be mis-spelt
Is there an add on or something else that I need..
thanks in advance

Does the FF spell checker work else where, ie in the reply box on these forums?
If it doesn't, try right clicking any word, misspelt or not, and click on Languages. Is United Kingdom showing and ticked?

"Try right clicking any word" in the reply box . . . . that's your spell check!
You don't need, and don't have spell checkers in forums as a rule.
The Firefox browser has it's own. Should you have misspelt words in a forum reply box, it should, but not always, have a red line underneath telling you it's spelt wrong according to it's dictionary, or it doesn't recognise the word. You right click an underlined word, and you will have options to use that it thinks is the correct word. Click a word it suggests and it changes the misspelt word.
If as I said above, if you have no United Kingdom showing and ticked, click 'Add Dictionaries', then scroll down to English (British) and install (Add to Firefox). Restart the browser.

I don't normally use Hotmail to write messages, but I've just tried the spell checker in Hotmail and I get the same message as you do.
In Firefox, go to Tools>Options>Advanced>General tab and, under 'Browsing', make sure that 'Check my spelling as I type' has a tick by it. This should give you the red line under a misspelt word. You can then right click on it and select the right word from the list given.
If you want a separate spell checker, have a look at SpellBound 3.0.6 which works well with Firefox 3xx, up to and including the current version, 3.5.3. I have it and use it a lot.
Either way, you need the British English Dictionary as mentioned above. You may already have it, so check your Add-ons (Extensions part) to see if it's there. If not, you can get it here.
