Hi guys
I have two questions of a simular nature:
Firstly, I use two computers around the home. One is a desktop PC which is hardwired via ethernet to my sky broadband. This computer is running XP home. The other is a laptop that is connected to the internet wirelessly. This machine is running XP Pro.
Is there away that I can share files between my computers using the equipment I have? It must be possible somehow as My PC can see my XBOX 360 via media player
My second question is: My hardwired PC and XBOX are in another room away from my sky modem. I have a 15 meter ethernet cable running in. I share this ethernet cable between the PC and the XBOX. Ideally, I would like both online at the same time. Is there a way of connecting both without running another ethernet cable through? (some type of splitter or something?)
Thanks guys.

"Is there away that I can share files between my computers using the equipment I have?"
Because the two computers are both connected to your Sky router, they are already "networked". In simple terms, all you should have to do is to set any folders that you want to have available over the network as "shared" by right clicking and selecting the Sharing & Security option. Then make sure that any firewall software is configured to allow access to the networked computers, which in the case of third-party firewalls may involve adding IP addresses in a "trusted" section.
In the case of XP Professional, make sure you are using Simple File Sharing. Open Windows Explorer and, from its menus, select "Tools > Folder options" and then the View tab. In the Advanced settings, scroll down to the very last item which relates to Simple File Sharing and make sure its box is ticked. This option is not available in XP Home Edition.
"Is there a way of connecting both without running another ethernet cable through? (some type of splitter or something?)"
Yes. What you need to do is to connect a "Network Switch" to the existing ethernet cable and this will provide extra LAN ports for additional computers, consoles etc. Examples of Network Switches

Thanks very much for your help. Once I have shared the files. Where will the folders be on the other machine?
Networking is not my strong point

Go into "My Network Places" and expand the folder tree as in this screenshot. The networked computers can then be further expanded to show their shared folders and/or printers.

"I had a message that said if i continue, the folder and printer would be available to anyone on the internet??"
A firewall properly configured will ensure that only those computers which have been given permission can access the "shared" folders. If using a third-party firewall, this may involve adding the computers' IP addresses in a "trusted" section.
