Hello all,
Got this rather perculiar problem.
Bought a wireless router WBR-T2 and despite making all the correct settings, i would not get any data flow into the laptop.
However, if i set the router's security setting to 'open' and 'unencrypted', then it works seamlessly. Both my own and the work laptop, as well the mobile phone, all connected. Just like those hotel routers i use when on business trips.
but as soon as i put it on the next available security setting, it would not connect wirelessly. I am using it now with the Ethernet cable.
it would find the network and it would show the green bars of reception, but it would not connect.
I know all the equipement works because they would connect at 'open' setting.
afterwards, thinking it was the router, i got another one ( microdigital ). i know this router works because i 've bought one for my mother's place and it worked perfectly there. Last week i took the 2 laptops there and both connected how it should be. It was me who had set it to the highest security setting as well!
But back in my place, the same router would not work, and the same 'open' setting was required again.
having googled around, i have found poss. explainations, like to do with Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter, but i don't know the subject well enough. Furthermore, it i have an issue with this adapter, then why did the laptop work in my mum's place?
would be very grateful of you guys could help. Thanks

There doesn't seem to be any logical explanation for your problem. Your Router and two laptops work with security enabled at your Mother's location, but not at yours. A second Router also doesn't work with security at your location. I can only think that there is some additional electronic device at your location which causes interference with an "encrypted" wireless signal.
Try changing the Channel number used in the Router's wireless settings and also switch off any electronic devices, such as cordless and mobile phones, and see if that makes any difference.

thanks Mike,
i tried switching off everything that may give off signals/ radiation, but no joy.
i got as far as the laptop being 'unable to find certificate to log you onto the network..'
and that was it. it went on and on....
i also tried the Wireless network setup wizard. I recall there is a little thing at the bottom saying something about WPA, WEP etc, i wonder if that influence matters. It has a box saying you should use WPA, but some devices may not be compatible.
the thing is, when the arial searches for signal, mine is the best logically with all the green bars...

"unable to find certificate to log you onto the network.."
Are you trying to use WPA-Radius encryption? If so, change to WPA-PSK. The inability to find a Radius Server to authenticate the network results in the error message that you've quoted.

Hi Mike
thanks for your help. After a bit of messing around i have got it working.
i think i had the WEP enabled in the past. this time i had it off.
just to show you what have i done and to remind anyone reading things, that if you have sim. problems with this router , you need to set it like this;
SSID ( name of your network) Network Authentication: WPA2 -PSK WPA Pre-Shared Key: *********** ( this is the password ) WPA Group Rekey Interval: 0 ( as default) WPA Encryption: AES WEP Encryption: Disabled
thanks once again
