I have a wireless HP printer and laptop on wireless network at home. If I turn on the printer after I am on the laptop (i.e. decide I want to print something) then it doesn't automatically connect. I have to go into control panel, printers, and remove and re-install the printer in order for it to be recognised.
It's driving me mad and I don't know why it happens. One time I was able to right-click the printer and a 'use printer online' option was there, when I selected that it worked but most time that option does not appear.
Any help gratefully received
Thanks

Does the printer itself have all the hardware for wireless networking or are you using an additional piece of hardware between the computer and the printer? What's the printer model number?

It's a HP Photosmart 4380 with built in wireless 802.11g, it either connects to the laptop directly (also wireless) or via the wireless router, thanks

Because you've got 2 wireless receivers (router and laptop) could it be that your printer is not sure which one you want to use? What about setting up a fixed IP address for the printer and then mapping a network drive to the printer from your laptop?
