Hi All,
Today I have re-installed vista on my PC and then I did all the vista updates (incl SP2) and now my DVD drive does not work??
It does not show up in My Computer and on device manager is says:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
I have been to HP and Compaq to look for updates and found a firmware update which does not work (I asume thats because it cant find the device)
I have also done a google search and come up with nothing.
So I would be very great full if someone could please help. Thankyou very much in advance, Alan.

You could try uninstalling the drive from within Device Manager, reboot, let Windows "find new hardware" and reinstall the drive. That might put the correct settings back into the registry.

Thanks for the suggestion but I have already tried that.

As you found the firmware update on the HP site do they have a driver update available? As it's an HP machine they normally supply a CD with all the installed drivers. Did you not get one?

They didn't have a driver update. I didn't get a CD with my PC but made a Compaq Recovery Disk Set the day I got the PC so the driver(s) should be somewhere on the disks but as its my DVD drive that doesn't work I can't get the driver(s).
If I was able to use a friends PC I wouldn't even know what files I would need to copy to a memory card to get the drive working again?
