Anyone got any ideas on this - formerly there were lts of loose wires running all over the house lobby and this exercise was to try to neaten up the installation! At each stage I tested the connections which worked OK:- • To the BT NTE5 master socket, I installed the new Openreach ADSL 1.0 ADSL/Phone front plate adaptor. • The ADSL outlet is through an RJ45 plug which leads (via an ADSL extension kit), to the computer, where it is connected as per instructions, blue 4//white/blue 5. The extension socket (RJ11) is connected to the Modem. The computer connects to the internet OK (and seems to be faster than before). • The modem telephone socket (for VOIP) works OK with the telephone. It also works OK with the fax machine. However with a doubler fitted to the modem telephone socket, and both VOIP phone and fax connected, the fax does not seem to work. I accept that that could be a problem which might not be capable of resolution, but it would be nice to know. • The ADSL splitter plate has terminals to hard wire a phone extension. It also obviously has the telephone socket on the front for another phone extension. I wired the internal terminals as per instructions: Blue 2; Orange with white rings 3; white with blue rings 5. The extension (which was an existing extension lead with loose end socket at the other end) seemed initially to function OK. This extension leads to the TV (for interactive operation) and by doubler to a normal telephone handset. • The phone socket on the front of the splitter plate is connected via a standard extension kit (which includes a socket on the plug into the splitter plate), to a different extension socket, which is wired as per instructions:- yellow 2; green 3; red 4; black 5. Again this seemed to work OK initially using either a normal phone or the fax. (The intention, unless it proves possible to use the VOIP phone with doubler as above, for the fax, is to use this phone extension doubled for phone and fax). • When everything was installed, I made an overall check of the system with the following results: o The computer online facility was OK o The VOIP phone and fax worked OK, provided they were not both connected – see above) o The telephone extension kit worked OK with the fax machine (in and out) o The normal telephone worked OK (making and receiving calls) if it was plugged into the extension kit socket plugged into the ADSL splitter on the master socket o The normal telephone was able to make calls from either of the two extension sockets (hard wired and kit), BUT it would not receive calls (and obviously did not ring) from those two sockets. o The hard wired extension works OK with the TV interactive.
The only thought I had was that there might be something intermittently wrong with the normal phone handset, but as it works ok with the main socket it is likely to be ok too!
Over to anyone with potential solutions.
Many thanks

Could you please help with the following bt phone wiring problem.
BT incoming line to box outside the house has white, orange, black, green wires of which white and orange are connected, black and green are free.
Wire to master socket inside the house has 8 wires,4xwhite,1 orange,1 blue, 1 green,1 brown.
As there are only 6 pins in the socket to which pin do each of these 8 wires go? Presume these are old bt wire colours.
The wires to the secondary socket are white/blue,white/green,white/orange,blue/white,green/white,orange/white.To which pin do these go in the master socket and secondary socket please

David21, welcome to Webuser.
Providing you don’t have the very old, Bakelite telephones that need a wire to make the telephone ‘bell’ ring, you only need two wires throughout the house. Without ‘Googling’, I don’t know the official colours but here is my setup:
Terminal or connector 5 has White/Blue (old colour Orange). Terminal or connector 2 has Mostly Blue (old colour Blue).
Providing you make every terminal 5 the same colour and every terminal 2 a different (but same) colour it will work. Also, by only using two wires you have effectively installed BT’s I-Plate booster.
