You should have received an e-mail from MSN about this. I had several as follows:
Dear MSN Customer,
You are receiving this note because you have used a free version of the MSN Client to view your MSN or Windows Live™ Hotmail® account. Microsoft is changing the way these programs access Hotmail and MSN e-mail which will require you to take action. If you currently use a program or service other than MSN Client to access your MSN or Windows Live Hotmail account, you do not need to take any action.
To continue to receive e-mail from your MSN or Windows Live Hotmail account, please select one of the alternative solutions below before September 1, 2009. After this day, you will no longer be able to access your e-mail via the 'E-mail' button on the dashboard in your MSN Client. However, you will still be able to access and enjoy all the other great features on the MSN Client including 'Bing'™ - a new search experience from Microsoft that provides an efficient way to search to help you make better decisions. Please, be aware new e-mail can only be delivered to your mail programs through the following alternative solutions.
Retrieve e-mail via Hotmail.com. You will be able to retrieve your e-mail via Hotmail.com by typing in http://www.hotmail.com/ in the address bar on your Internet browser or your MSN Client.
Download Windows Live Essentials. Now in one installation, Windows Live Essentials gives you instant messaging, e-mail, blogging, photos and more free from Microsoft. Visit http://get.live.com/.
Install MSN Toolbar. The MSN Toolbar allows easy access to e-mail, entertainment, breaking news, videos and more. Preview latest headlines at the click of a button. Now includes 'Bing' - a faster way to search to help you make better decisions. Visit http://www.newmsntoolbar.com/ or http://toolbar.msn.com/markets.aspx for outside the US to download the MSN Toolbar for free.
Use Microsoft Office Outlook® to view e-mail. If you already have Outlook 2003 or 2007 installed on your PC, you can download free Office Outlook Connector to continue accessing your Windows Live Hotmail within Outlook 2003 or 2007. If you're using Outlook 2002, you will need to change the settings on your program to access your Hotmail. Click here to learn more.
Purchase an MSN Premium Subscription. MSN Premium® gives you the persistent, PC-wide security features you need for a reliable broadband connection, such as MSN Virus Guard and MSN Firewall powered by McAfee® and Webroot® Spy Sweeper for MSN that scans and monitors your PC from known virus and spyware threats to help block them before they infect your computer. Plus, MSN Premium provides you access to many online services and tools such as easy online photo sharing and ad-free e-mail service. You can purchase a new MSN Premium subscription directly from the MSN Online Services website to continue enjoying the same customer experience that you have received from MSN Explorer® through the years.
For questions about these changes or to purchase an MSN Premium subscription, please visit our website or contact MSN Customer Care at (866) 205-6768.
Have more questions? View our Frequently Asked Questions page.
Thank you for using the MSN Client.
Sincerely, Your MSN Premium Team
The paragraph about Outlook is probably what you need. I had to change how I got Hotmail in Outlook Express and it works fine.
