It is quite a quick question really and I think I know the answer but I wanted to check on here first.
My wife uses our old XP laptop and literally only uses it to surf the internet, upload a few pictures via a USB stick and check her e-mail. In order to free up the laptops resources/space I am taking quite a few things off it.
It currently has Intervideo WinDVD and Intervideo WinDVD Creator along with Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 installed. None of which she uses anymore and hasnt for a long time. Like I said, it is an old laptop and not used for movie making etc anymore and also anything she saves when using it is saved to a USB memory stick and we certainly wont be making DVD's on this laptop and havent for many years now.
Is it ok just to uninstall WinDVD and WinDVD Creator or could it cause problems to other progams on the laptop?
Also, Easy CD and DVD Creator. Do I need this on if I wanted to save a data disc as such? Or can Windows XP do that for me?
What I basically want to know is, if I uninstall these programs will I still be able to save things via the CD/DVD drive, just not "create movies, watch movies, create music discs etc" (Which I do on our other laptop anyway).
Hope this makes sense lol
Cheers in advance

All the programmes you mention are third party software and as such can be removed without having any effect on Windows itself. However you say you still want a way of burning CDs or DVDs.
First of all you say it's an old machine. Does the CD drive have burning capabilities for both CD and DVD? In older machines it was normally a case of CD/RW plus DVD Read only.
If you are only burning CD's I would leave EasyCD on board. Windows can burn CDs but I've always found it very cumbersome. If you want DVDs as well, Windows XP can't do that on it's own so you still need a third party piece of software.

Thanks for the quick response as always greysts
Thanks also for the information, very helpful mate.
In answer to your question, the CD Drive is CD/RW and DVD/RW-r. One of the main reasons I bought it at the time really.
Honestly, I think I will take heed of your advice and as I will certainly not be burning or making anymore DVD's using this XP laptop I will remove WinDVD but keep on Easy CD and DVD Creator.
Thanks again for your time greysts
