Have spent most of my time online today alternating between Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 simply because Firefox just freezes up after a couple of pages.
Mouse or any keyboard shortcuts stop working and Task Manager is the only means of escape to enable use of IE.
Googling, this seems to be quite common, although why does not seem to be clarified in any of the queries opened.
IE works perfectly so what ails FF? I have never messed with settings, default suits me, not particularily interested in more bells and whistles.
Thought I'd ask before shutting down for the day and sleeping on it.
Any help appreciated as always.

You could try running Firefox in its 'Safe Mode to see if the problem still occurs then. If so, it's probably one of your extensions causing the problem. One way of finding out which one is to disable them all and re-enable them one by one until you can pinpoint the troublesome one. Somewhat time-consuming, but it would probably work! If it's a recent problem, have you made any changes, i.e. installed new extensions? In this case, disable or uninstall the extension to see if this solves the problem. If all else fails, try creating a new profile and see if that works properly. Some useful links to articles in the mozillaZine knowledge base:

I hope something here helps!

Thanks for responding Madeline, have been online for 30 minutes now, so far Firefox is behaving itself, not a hiccup. Strange things computers!
I'm relatively new to Firefox, apart from upgrading to 3.5.2, using the Adblock Plus thingy and the Speed Dial feature no other goodies have been downloaded. Firefox appeals because it's faster than IE8, that in itself is sufficient for me.
Nevertheless, your advice is appreciated and if it misbehaves again I now know what to do. Thanks again.
