Virgin speed upgraded by my Laptop doesnt detect it?
      #438153 - Mon Sep 07 2009 10:43 AM

Hiya - I recently upgraded my virgin broadband to the latest maximum speed as a treat to myself; but when they came and installed the upgrade to my cables it made no difference to the speed.

They tested it with their own laptop and theirs was sufficiently fast and they
declared it must be my laptop not able to cope.

I have a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Li 1705 Laptop/Notebook, running Vista basic. Its about 2 years old so not exactly top notch by laptop standards, but I would have expected something better!

They left me the kit and gave me a dongle which they said would boost my signal and may help a bit more.

I dont mind paying to upgrade my laptop, I would rather do that than just buy an new one as that seems such a waste.

I am pretty comfortable with my laptop and feel fairly techy, I keep it up to date with virus scans, driver updates, registry cleaning etc, but looking for some advise on where to go next as I would love to use a service that I am paying for!!!

Thanks x x x

Can we check a few things first. Are you using Virgin cable or do you get your broadband via a t/p line? What speed are you paying for? You say they left you a dongle. Does that mean you are using a wireless connection? If so, does it also mean that you are using a wireless router?
