HDTV for gaming.
      #438002 - Thu Sep 03 2009 02:47 PM

Hi, I am looking to purchase a HDTV for use with my PS3, so its main use will be gaming and bluray films.

I have decided on a 40" with a max budget of about £700. Just wanting to know if anyone has any opinions on good TVs for that price?

Samsung Series 6 650 40" is the one I am thinking of at the moment.

Can anyone give their opinions please on this, or other TV's.

Thanks.

Josh

That's a bloody good TV Josh.

They say that Samsung are the leaders when it comes to TV's, followed by Panasonic, Sony and then Pioneer. The last 3 usually swap places and sometimes LG or Sharp appear, but I'd say for the last couple of years Samsung have been at the top.

I'd opt for that without a doubt for your budget, you can't go wrong.

3 hdmi, full 1080p and a solid contrast ratio.

When I can afford to upgrade my current LG, I will be looking at Samsung's, very keen on the new LED TV's but they're massively expensive.

The only downside with that offer from Play is the fact that they haven't got any in stock and I can't find another e-tailer on the net who has at that price. Plenty more expensive ones - Dixons say they've got one here but when you try and buy one they haven't got any either. Plenty in the states, but that don't help a lot.

Yeah, I've just noticed it's out of stock, the penalties for being indecisive. Have been doing a little more research and found Sony-KDL40W5500U which is getting very good reviews, but is slightly more expensive.

It's in stock which is good, as I return to Uni in a few weeks, and need to have it before then, as sites will only deliver to my billing address, which is not my Uni address. Found it from Digital Direct a bit cheaper with a 4 year warranty too, but I am not sure of the credibility of this site.

Edit: Just seen they are charging £50 for delivery to my house, that puts me off a lot.

Now, I just have to decide weather to go for the Sony, or wait to see If Play get any more of the Samsung back in stock for the same price.

Well, I picked up a copy of What Hi-fi today, and they gave the Sony an awful review, so I'm going to go with the Samsung. The Dixons website says they can get one to me within 14 days, after I put my postcode in. So I think I will go with that. Just one stupid question; the TV on the Dixons website has a slightly different code: LE40B651T not LE40B650, just want to make sure it's the same TV.

It's the same TV, cosmetic differences.

Great, thought it would be.

Thank you both for your help. TV is ordered and on its way, will report back in a couple of weeks when I have it.
