There is now an update to NIS 2009 which you'll get via LiveUpdate. It will update your version to v16.7.2.10. If you run Firefox 3.5.x, it will re-enable you Norton IPS 1.0 Add-on and quite possibly disable some of your other Add-ons! This can easily be fixed either by using MR Tech Toolkit or downloading the extensions again.
You'll probably have to restart your PC twice to ensure that this update is properly installed.

Hi just joined here! regarding the latest 3.5.2 firefox norton 2009 fiasco! I have until recently held back upgrading but was stupidly convinced that these issues were fixed, tried the patch first no joy so put back my pc to earlier firefox were all worked just fine , anyays installed firefox 3.5.2 after two downloads from within the norton 2009 program and two restarts later all seemed ok , or so i thought next day two more norton updates two more restarts now both norton toolbar and ips 1.0 are reported as not being supported in that location in firefox add on management, I just find this whole thing incredulous! the hundreds of norton/firefox users left floundering trying to try this solution that solution hours wasted on forums! ive personally emailed norton to add my fury to the fires, not that it will do much good my options seem to be revert back to firefox 3.12 or get rid of firefox and use ie8 as according to norton when i asked ie8 is the only one i was told was ok? so can anyone shed more current info? i bet they will wait till norton 2010 arrives and say ....rasp to all 2009 users ????

Firefox 3.5.2 in use here and the Norton update has enabled the IPS extension. Some of the other extensions were disabled by the update. I found the problem was cured by using the 'Find Updates' button in the 'Add-ons' box and then restarting the browser once the checking was complete.

The current Norton update is causing a lot of problems to users of NIS 2009 as you can see if you visit their forum. We're all hoping for an early update!

I have been keeping an eye on the Norton forum and notice some are having trouble. Strange how some suffer and some don't, even though they may be using the same OS and the same versions of Firefox and Norton security program.
Sorry about the change of title in my last post (corrected by Hello_There). A reason has been discovered for it. NIS 2009 form filler automatically changed the 'Subject' field to my username. It went unnoticed. Hope we're OK this time.

The title seems to be OK now! There's a hotfix available now for people who are having problems and you can get it here. A further patch will follow soon:

We have decided to remove the current product patch and are quickly working on a new one that incorporates the changes made within the hot fix. As soon as the new patch is available for downloading, we will let you know.
This is from the Norton forum.

They do seem to be having difficulty sorting the program out at present. Maybe it's because the new versions are 'slimmed-down' and so tightly coded that it's perhaps not easy to update some elements of the program without it affecting others.

The hotfix seems to work as far as I can tell. The Security Center doesn't appear to know that Norton exists now though! It shows up twice in Task Manager as it should, so I'm not too bothered about the Security Center although I'll probably ask about it on the Norton forum.
You're probably fight about the program being tightly coded, but Symantec should be able to provide protection that works correctly. I was on their forum yesterday and the main thread about this problem, which had been started less than 3 days previously, had 600+ posts. I've never seen anything like that before!

hi madeline and all on the forum! Just thought Id share some information direct from norton , having switched from firefox back ti Ie8 which i hate, i thought oh goody! a new browser, better check about those pesky ips and toolbar issues that i had with firefox 3.5.2 , well guess what ? ........norton say rather tetchy reply I might add that the aforementioned items are not compatible with norton 2009!!!!! which kind of begs the question are we deliberately being forced or manipulated back to Internet explorer 8? as it would appear norton doesnt work with opera 10 the latest browser, whats the excuse for this? after all we have had numerous explanations regarding firefox , now opera??? what are your views about this?

Hi Neil,
You have been misinformed. Both the Norton Toolbar (now version 3.7) and Norton IPS 1.0 work in NIS 2009 as I understand they do in Norton 360 version3.0. There have been updates and a hotfix to resolve these difficulties since I started this thread, so please stop scaremongering and try to keep up with current developments. I run NIS 2009 and Firefox 3.5.2 and the Norton Add-ons work fine. Incidentally, the Norton forum helped me to get my Security Center working properly again.
NIS 2009 is the first of the Norton Internet Security suites to support Firefox officially as well as Internet Explorer. I think they're doing well and I'm not surprised that there have been a few teething problems. No doubt Symantec will improve!
I'm not sure what your problem is with Opera 10. Certainly Opera isn't yet supported by Symantec, but it's hardly likely to be a top priority since so few people use Opera relatively speaking. A pity, but that's the case.
I don't know where you got your information 'from Norton', but whoever gave it to you was badly informed, i.e.wrong. Perhaps they should visit the Norton Community forums and get some up to date info!
